Overview

Professors Michael Baye (Indiana), John Morgan (Berkeley) and Patrick Scholten (Bentley) are actively involved in cutting-edge academic research on the industrial organization of the new economy.

Using the tools of game theory, econometrics, and information economics together with one of the largest datasets ever assembled on pricing by firms selling products over the Internet, they have studied issues ranging from the impact of fee structures at price comparison sites on the competitiveness of E-markets to the incentives of firms to price discriminate among online and off-line customers.

Evolution of Online Markets

These researchers have been tracking the evolution of online markets since the late 1990s, and have assembled a number of continuous datasets spanning nearly five years and containing well over 10 million price observations for over 5,000 different products.

The tables and graphs displayed on the Data tab are based on these data and their  ongoing research. They are continuously updated as a service to the academic and  business community.
